Isn't Go Daddy Cheaper?

It's true.  You can register your domain name for $7.00 annually and order bare bones website hosting for as little as $6.00 per month.  This adds up to $79.00 per year.  Once you pay with your credit card, they will send you a username and password.  Then what?  If you pay a little more, they may have some online tools to help you build your site.  You will be responsible for linking everything together and making sure it works.  They will not give you access to tools that are necessary to create nice looking graphics or help you convert your documents into PDFs or help you post any updates.  Everything will be up to you.  If you miss a payment, there is usually a 're-activation' fee which can cost more than $80 just to re-claim your domain name!!!

Can't I do it myself?

I have worked with lots of clients, and I have been impressed by their enthusiasm, drive, and intelligence.  I know my clients are smart enough to create and maintain their website.  Most of us could learn how to do things we have not done before.  We could learn how to fix our cars, we could learn how to put new shingles on our roofs, but frequently it makes more sense to let someone else handle the task.

Developing and maintaining a website takes a lot of time and patience.  Ultimately you will have to decide for yourself if you have the extra time needed to complete the task.  What happens when your volunteer decides they no longer want the responsibility?  Is your organization ready to train someone else?
